People have been really emotional about this, to be honest. Just a few hours after the news about Justice Uwais passing, tributes started pouring in online and on the radio. Many folks, like the Attorney General from Ondo State, called him a beacon of integrity and said he changed the legal and election scene for the better.
I’ve seen some of my teachers and people on social media sharing memories of how he was super strict but fair, which is rare in politics and law. Some said meeting him or appearing in his court was a once-in-a-lifetime experience because he actually listened. It’s not just lawyers or politicians though. Regular people have mentioned that even if they didn’t always agree with his ideas, at least he stood for something good and honest, which really matters now.
I honestly think Justice Uwais made people believe in the idea that law can be fair. That’s probably how a lot of Nigerians will remember him. I hope future leaders do too.
