So, Tinubu and Zulum had this big meeting because the insurgent attacks from Boko Haram and ISWAP have been getting totally out of control lately. From what I've heard, they talked about starting this new team of armed forest guards, which is kinda new for Nigeria. I think the idea is to get local people who know the area, which makes way more sense than just sending regular dudes from the army who don’t know the forest at all.
They're also trying to speed up getting weapons and stuff to the soldiers already out there, which is honestly long overdue. I remember seeing in the news that some of the outposts got overrun, and people are freaked out because it’s making everyone feel unsafe, especially in Borno State. Zulum sounded pretty serious about making sure nobody plays politics with who gets to join these forest guards—I think that’s actually smart since people usually use stuff like that to give jobs to their friends.
TLDR: Tinubu and Zulum are pushing for faster help and want to use locals as guards, which might actually help compared to what they've tried before. I hope it works, because people in those areas deserve to just live in peace for once.
