I've noticed that whenever Wizkid does something major, like that new documentary premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, he ends up talking about the struggles in Nigeria way more than a lot of other celebs. I think it's because, deep down, he really cares about where he’s from and wants things to actually change.
In my experience, a lot of famous artists either ignore issues or stay quiet so they don’t mess up their image. But Wizkid seems like he doesn’t care about that – he’d rather use his platform to help out his people. It’s a big risk, especially with so many fans watching and probably expecting just music talk, but I respect it. He’s basically saying, "Yeah, I made it, but there’s still so much to fix back home."
If more entertainers actually used their moments in the spotlight to call out real problems, I think stuff might change faster. I seriously hope he keeps doing it, even if it makes things awkward sometimes. We need more of that honesty.
