Honestly, I think sometimes layoffs at big companies like Microsoft might actually help the business stay strong long term. Like, if the company is spending too much or has too many projects that aren't going anywhere, cutting some jobs can let them focus on stuff that really matters. My uncle works in tech and he told me once that after his company had layoffs, the mood sucked for a while, but then things sped up because only the most important projects kept going and they started making better apps.
I saw that Microsoft is doing another round of layoffs, which is like 7,000 people or about 3% of their staff. That sounds rough, but for a business the size of Microsoft, it might seriously save them money and let them put more effort on Teams instead of Skype, especially now that Skype is retiring in May 2025. So yeah, it feels awful for people losing jobs, but for the company, sometimes these layoffs are what help them stay on top in tech. I still wish there was a way they didn't need to let people go, though. If they do it right, it isn't all bad from the business side. Hang in there everyone! 🫶
