Honestly, the ojude oba festival is like nothing else I’ve seen. Every year, it’s packed with crazy energy because everyone’s showing up in these colorful traditional outfits, and the way families and groups parade past the king (the Awujale) is epic. There’s music, dancing, and even those wild horse riders who do stunts in the big open field. It feels like the whole town is just buzzing.
What really makes it entertaining is seeing people from all over come together to celebrate their roots. I love when relatives I haven’t seen in forever all show up, and everyone’s repping their culture like it’s the Met Gala but for Yoruba people. There’s this huge sense of pride and unity. Plus, there’s awesome food everywhere — I’m obsessed with the pounded yam and akara. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
From what I’ve experienced, people travel from all around the world just to be part of the festival. It’s got that mix of tradition, fashion, and pure fun that, honestly, keeps everyone hyped up for the next year as soon as it ends.
