Okay, so nelfund is basically short for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund. Lately everyone’s talking about it because they just handed out like N56.85 billion in student loans, which is wild! I saw it on the news and was honestly surprised at how many students got help, apparently almost 300,000 students from Nigerian universities. That’s a lot of people who might not have been able to attend without this funding! What’s cool is they don’t just give money away randomly, it goes to students who really need it for their schooling.

The reason it’s getting so much attention now is probably ‘cause there’s not a lot of places in Nigeria where you can get that kind of student financial help, and this is the first time something like this has happened at such a big scale. Plus the government is making a big deal about keeping it fair and making sure no one cheats the system, which I wish more programs would do. Honestly, if something like this was around when my older cousin was in school, maybe he wouldn’t have struggled so much! I just hope they expand it to more students, especially those at state schools who are still waiting.
