Honestly, everyone in my neighborhood thinks www.bbchausa.com is way more trustworthy than most other news sites. For a lot of people in the north, it’s because they actually publish stuff in Hausa, which just feels more local and real. I’ve seen my uncles debating politicians and they’ll go, "But BBC Hausa said this!" like it shuts down the whole argument.
My own dad says he trusts BBC Hausa because they have reporters everywhere, not just in big cities, and the news doesn’t sound like government propaganda. Even during protests or crisis situations, they seemed to get there faster or had better info than the channels on TV.
Lots of people around here grew up listening to the BBC on the radio, so that trust sort of moved online with www.bbchausa.com. Sure, not everyone agrees with how they report, but nobody thinks they’re just making stuff up like some random WhatsApp group. If you want political news that feels honest and actually speaks your language, that’s where you go.
