Honestly, favour ofili switching from Nigeria to Turkey just screams frustration to me. If you look at what happened, she missed big events like the Paris 2024 Olympics 100m because of some admin mess-up by the Nigerian Federation, even though she qualified! I'd be mad too if I trained for years and then couldn’t run my main race because someone filled out paperwork wrong. Ofili even called them out publicly, which takes guts. I've seen other athletes change countries for cash, but in her case, it feels more about respect and actually having her efforts recognized.
In my experience watching sports, athletes just want a fair shot and to be taken seriously. If I was in Ofili’s shoes, I’d probably do the same. Plus, Turkey’s been picking up athletes who feel let down by their own countries, so they must be offering more support. Makes you think, maybe Nigeria really needs to get its act together if they wanna keep top talents like her. It actually sucks for Nigerian fans, but I totally respect her move.
If you ask me, Ofili’s making a stand and sending a message that athletes deserve better. Good on her for not just putting up with it.
