Honestly, it sounds wild but Fubara probably felt like he had zero options left. From what I’ve read, the pressure on him was just massive—imagine everyone from the president, Tinubu, to your former mentor (Wike) totally turning against you! There were stories about him getting "humiliated and politically crushed" with courts, police, and even the state's lawmakers coming at him from all sides.
I remember a time when I had a group project in school and it felt like everyone just ganged up, so in the end I had to just go with the flow even when I knew it wasn’t my first choice. For Fubara, all those high-powered folks used their influence, and the promise to get reinstated as governor just pushed him over. The thing is, if he didn’t join the APC, he could have totally lost everything because the federal government called a state of emergency and put someone else in charge!
In my opinion, he had to do it to survive politically, even if it meant giving up some control. It totally sucks for democracy though, and I wish leaders didn't have to pick sides just to keep their jobs.
