Why did Nyesom Wike decide to seal the People's Democratic Party national secretariat and thousands of other properties recently in Abuja? Was it just about unpaid ground rent or something more?

So, the main reason Nyesom Wike, who's the Minister of the FCT now, gave for sealing the PDP secretariat and those thousands of other buildings was all about the ground rent. Basically, if you own a property in Abuja, you're supposed to pay the government rent every year for the land your place sits on. Wike said some places (even big names like banks and the PDP headquarters) haven't paid theirs for up to 43 years! That's wild to me, because that's older than most people I know. He insists it's not political at all—even though you know people will gossip that it is, since he's been part of plenty political drama himself.

My honest take? I kinda believe him that part of it is about the money, because money is tight for the government everywhere. But, you can't just ignore that sealing off the PDP secretariat (his old party!) right now definitely feels shady. People like HURIWA said there should've just been fines, not these shutdowns. If someone's been owing since my parents were teenagers though, I kind of get the frustration too. Still, Wike's been in so many fights, I can't help but feel like there's always a story behind the story with him.
