Oh man, this one got me thinking because when someone like Olufemi Oladapo Soneye leaves a big company like NNPC, people tend to wonder what's going on behind the scenes. Soneye says he left to spend more time with his family and handle personal stuff, which honestly makes sense to a lot of people. I know if my family needed me more, work would have to wait, no matter how high the position.
But, if I'm being real, sometimes it's not just about family. Soneye had this big role leading NNPC’s communications, and he’d only been there since 2023. Sometimes, when a top comms guy leaves, it’s because things aren’t going super smoothly inside, or maybe he didn’t agree with some of the new directions. I’ve seen that happen at my mom's office before.
As for whether NNPC’s messaging is going to get worse now he's gone? It definitely could. Soneye had a solid rep, with tons of media experience in Nigeria and other countries. Without his skills, the company might struggle to keep their brand strong, unless they find someone just as good. Transitions can get messy and the public usually notices. That’s my take—sometimes the real story is what’s not said.
