I've noticed that every time id el kabir comes around, politicians in Nigeria make these long speeches about unity and peace, and honestly, sometimes it feels a bit fake. Like, I get that it's a big festival for Muslims and it's about sacrifice and love and all, but I feel like politicians just use these holidays as another chance to say the same things they've said a thousand times.

From what I've seen, most of the time, these statements don't actually change much in everyday life. They sound nice and make headlines for a day, but after the celebration, it's back to the usual problems. People are still facing economic issues and there's still a bunch of political drama. I remember last year in my area, we had politicians handing out bags of rice for id el kabir, but it didn't last more than a week.

It's great when leaders genuinely encourage unity, but I wish they'd also follow up with real action that actually helps people, instead of just talking about it every holiday. Until that happens, I don't think their id el kabir speeches really make a big difference.
