This is actually one of those moments when politics just doesn't make sense to me. Like, you'd think all Republicans would stick together, but the salt deduction splits them. I've read that blue-state Republicans (the ones from places like New York and New Jersey) are pushing hard to raise the cap, because their voters are getting squeezed by local taxes.

But the Republicans from low-tax/red states totally don't see the point. They say it's unfair for people in high-tax states to get a bigger deduction just because their state charges more. It turns into this drama where the party is kinda fighting itself. One dude even said that lifting the cap is like rewarding states that overtax their people, and that's not what they're about.

I get why some Republicans just can't support it, even if it means their buddies in Congress have a harder time keeping their seats. It's like, for them, it's about doing what they think is right for all their voters, not just making things easy for a few. But wow, it really sounds brutal when you see them debate about it on TV!
