It's kind of wild how Werenoi was massive in France but barely showed up in US playlists or anything. I've noticed that happens a lot with artists who rap in languages that aren't English, even if they're legends where they come from. I remember hearing a few of his songs on TikTok but nothing on US radio or Spotify's global lists.
I think a big reason is just language and marketing. Werenoi wrote all his lyrics in French, so unless you speak the language or the song goes viral, most Americans and people in other countries don't notice. Plus, he was super private and didn't seem to do big international interviews or try for that "crossover" fame. His music style is also really French, with references and slang that don't always translate.
I honestly wish more people outside France knew about him because he was talented as heck. Maybe if he had lived longer or done more English collabs, things would've been different. But in France, he was easily as big as Billie Eilish or bigger. Maybe it'll change now and more people will check him out.
