Honestly, I think all the talk about US democracy being at risk is pretty real. I mean, just look at what happened lately with big protests and the way some leaders said they'd use the military against people just for protesting. That's crazy to me. It almost feels like stuff you'd see in a history book about countries without democracy, not here.
People are worried because there have been attacks on things like the right to protest (which is actually protected by the First Amendment). After watching people get threatened just for speaking up, you start asking if democracy can really keep working the way it should. There's a lot of talk about making rules to stop "fake news" or keep certain people from voting, and honestly, that makes it feel kind of shaky.
Is it as bad as some people make it sound? I guess it depends on who you ask, but I honestly think we should pay attention. If we just act like it's all fine, we could lose stuff we'll miss later on. I feel like it's better to ask questions and try to protect our rights than just hope everything works out.
