Reinventing a squad like Barcelona's, which is in this weird transition with a bunch of young players mixed with veterans, Flick probably wants someone stable who can play multiple positions without drama. Also, Perisic comes at a sweet price since he's on a free and his salary is pretty chill for a club like Barça.

I can imagine Flick thinking, "Look, I need a guy who’s gonna set the work rate for everyone else and won’t complain if he’s moved around from winger to wingback to even up front."
