Honestly, this is something I've wondered about all the time. Living in Abuja, my family has dealt with a bunch of crazy electricity bills, and most days, we still get random blackouts. From what I've read and what people at Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) say, there are a few reasons why prices can be high even when the light's not steady. First, they often blame the cost on old infrastructure and the need to fix lots of broken equipment. I guess they also deal with electricity theft, which makes it more expensive for everyone else. But honestly, I feel like companies could be a bit more open about where the money's going.
Some people say that energy companies have to pay a lot for the power they buy, and there's all this bureaucracy too, like fees, taxes, and bad management. It all adds up and customers get stuck with the bill. It almost feels like they use any excuse to raise the price. To me, it doesn't seem very fair. I wish they'd invest more in making the power steady instead of just charging us more. Until then, I guess some people will keep buying generators.
So yeah, it really is a big business issue and not just about the wires and poles. I hope they fix it soon!
