Honestly, the West African Examinations Council has strict rules because cheating messes up everything for everyone. If people could just copy answers or sneak in phones, the whole point of taking the exams would be ruined. I think WAEC wants to make sure that everyone’s results actually mean something, so that when you leave school, you know your grades are fair. Because of this, they have all these rules and if you break them, it can cost you a lot — like having your results canceled or even your school getting in trouble.
I’ve heard of schools that got derecognized by WAEC because so many cheating cases happened there. That’s major because students from that school might not be able to sit for future exams through WAEC. In my opinion, it’s for the best even though it’s tough, because it keeps people honest and helps the smart and hardworking students stand out. Plus, heads of schools are the ones who have to make sure nobody cheats, or they’re held responsible too, which is kind of a lot of pressure on them.
So yeah, it feels strict but I think it’s supposed to protect everyone’s chances and the exam’s reputation.
