Honestly, I think it comes down to nostalgia and money. The original Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire legit has a huge fanbase—even people who weren't alive when the first one came out have seen it because the internet's obsessed with it. Sony and Fathom probably know that old school fans, plus new ones, will fill up theaters for a chance to see those movies on the big screen for the first (or second, or third) time.

Also, Marvel movies haven't been smashing the box office lately like they used to, and I've noticed on TikTok and YouTube, everyone talks about how the old Spider-Man movies are better than the newer ones. Maybe Sony's just listening to what people say online. Re-releasing the trilogy in 4K and with an extended Spider-Man 2.1 cut is smart if you ask me, and it gets people hyped for Spider-Man again without having to actually make a new movie. Also, tickets go on sale soon, so people are probably already planning group nights and making a thing out of it, which helps theaters too. I’d definitely go with my friends—feels way more like an event than another random reboot.
