I've wondered if the Menendez brothers’ story might actually flip the script for other people who say they were abused before doing something terrible. Before, it seemed like nobody believed them and the court just focused on the crime. Now, with all the new info and people being more open about trauma, maybe judges and juries will listen more when someone says, “Look, my life was a nightmare.”
Some lawyers are already saying this case could be used as an example, especially since professionals and family stood up for these brothers. But, I also think people worry about fake abuse claims, so courts have to be super careful. Still, I do feel like the Menendez brothers opened the door a bit for others to at least have their stories of abuse seriously considered. It might not excuse everything, but the court could show more empathy. I’ve seen stories online of other cases where this is being discussed now.
