Honestly, I've thought about this a lot, especially after all the stuff going down in places like Turkey and even arguments here in Florida. I kinda feel like parties always talk a big game about protecting rights, but when push comes to shove, it depends on who's in charge and what they care about. Like, politicians love to say they're keeping us free or protecting our voices, but if it benefits them to silence people, they usually do it.
My uncle’s always ranting about politicians making promises during campaigns and then just doing whatever works for them afterward. Look at Turkey: the party in power arrested a bunch of opposition leaders, saying they’re protecting the country, but really, it just shuts down disagreeing voices. Even here, the party talks about keeping Florida free, but my friend's mom worries they're only free if you agree with them.
So, I think trusting the party blindly is kinda risky. It's better to watch what they actually do instead of just what they say. Politicians will always say what they think will get them votes, but real protection of rights is shown by actions, not slogans.
