From what I saw and heard, I think the Man City vs Bournemouth game could have easily just been about getting closer to the Champions League spots, but honestly almost everyone was focused on celebrating Kevin De Bruyne. My uncle was at the game and said people barely talked about the table or the score until after the final whistle. The whole stadium pretty much showed up to say goodbye, waving signs, holding up a giant tifo, and cheering just for De Bruyne every time he touched the ball.
Yeah, City do need Champions League football and the win was huge for that, but the real emotion was all about De Bruyne’s 10 years at the club. Even Pep Guardiola was crying and De Bruyne gave a big speech at the end. So I’d say the victory mattered, but it was mostly a celebration for a club legend who’s given so many great moments. Felt way more like a farewell party than just another match, if you ask me. That’s what will stick in my mind, not just the three points.
