So this is a big debate. I've seen people online saying Straw is super dramatic to the point of unreal, especially how everything bad happens to Janiyah in like, 24 hours. I'll be honest, parts of it do feel a little much. But honestly, that's kinda what makes it work. I know some people who actually felt seen by the movie, like it finally put all those little invisible struggles out there without sugarcoating. Taraji P. Henson totally killed it with her acting, making Janiyah's meltdown feel like something you could actually see happening to someone you know. Even though Tyler Perry can get pretty cheesy sometimes, he nailed the actual emotion that comes with being totally stuck and desperate. I remember watching with my mom, and she said a lot of it was "way too real" for her—like the money problems and school stuff. So yeah, it's dramatic, but sometimes you gotta go big to get people to pay attention. It hits home for way more people than you'd think.
