From what I saw, JJ just gave off this energy that totally pulled people in. Even though Sweden had all the hype with that catchy folk-pop thing, I think JJ's voice and the whole vibe of Wasted Love felt super real. Like, I'm not usually into ballads, but there was something about how he performed it live that really stood out.
Plus, a lot of people online said his background as a counter-tenor with experience in both opera and pop made him unique. I honestly think viewers are kinda tired of the same predictable pop songs, so seeing someone mix it up and do something different made a big difference. Also, his whole story about being inspired by Conchita Wurst and having family in the audience just made it all feel more personal. So yeah, Sweden might have looked like a sure thing, but I think in the end, JJ was just more relatable and people felt something real watching him. That's what made everything click for him this year.
