Alright, so OpenAI kinda stands out because they started as a non-profit and then added a thing called a "capped-profit" model. Basically, investors and employees can only earn back so much even if OpenAI earns a lot, which is super unlike Google or Microsoft where profits just keep going. I remember reading about how Sam Altman and the founders said they chose this way so they wouldn't just chase as much cash as possible but would focus more on AI safety and helping everyone.

From what I've seen, OpenAI makes a lot of its money by letting companies use their models, like the GPT stuff, through a platform kind of like a subscription or pay-as-you-go. Recently they even announced smaller, cheaper models like GPT-4o mini, so they're even targeting businesses that don't have loads of cash.

Most tech companies only care about sales and growth, but OpenAI keeps saying their big goal is to push AI forward "for humanity." I find it kinda cool but I'm a bit skeptical if they'll keep that up with all the pressure from investors lately. Either way, they're definitely not like every other tech company in the business world.
