From what I’ve learned, if a commissioner officially resigns in Akwa Ibom, it sets off a whole chain reaction in the government. First, the governor will usually accept the resignation and issue a statement about it, just to clear up any confusion. Right after that, the responsibilities of the resigned commissioner will often go to another commissioner as a temporary thing, so nothing gets stuck.
I remember one time a commissioner in my local government area quit suddenly, and the news spread quickly, but honestly, the government barely skipped a beat. The governor basically called an emergency meeting and within a week, a new person was nominated. They have to be confirmed by the House of Assembly before taking over officially. It’s kind of like when you lose your class prefect and the teacher just picks one of your classmates to stand in until there’s a proper election. Stuff keeps moving because the government can’t just stop while they look for a replacement. So, while it’s a big deal and maybe awkward for a bit, the state tries to handle it quickly so people don’t lose trust in the system.
