Yeah, so I just read about this f1 visa news today and honestly, it sounds kinda stressful for anyone trying to come to the US for studies this year. After a long pause, the government told all their embassies to start doing student visa interviews again, but now they’re being way stricter. Visa officers have to check your social media and online presence to see if you’re posting anything mean about the US or supporting messed up stuff like terrorism.
I mean, it’s normal to have some background checks, but personally, it kinda worries me how much control they have over your online life. Like, a couple of my friends are always joking around online, and now they’re scared that something might get taken the wrong way and mess up their chances. You even have to set your socials to public so they can have a look around and save screenshots if they find anything sketchy!
They did say finding something weird on your profile doesn’t mean you’re for sure rejected, but still, it makes getting an f1 visa feel a lot tougher. I just hope the interview slots don’t get even harder to get now that the whole process will be slower. If you’re trying this year, I’d say double-check your socials and maybe clean up anything that could look bad.
