Honestly, the whole Valeria Marquez Zapopan thing blew up on social media way more than I expected. It's wild how people latched on to it because, yeah, there’s a lot of violence in Mexico, but this really hit different. I think it’s partly because Valeria was livestreaming on TikTok at her own beauty salon when she got shot. Like, people actually saw it play out in real time or found the video later, and that shock factor just made it spread crazy fast.
Another reason it got so much attention is because Valeria was already popular online as an influencer and a beauty pageant winner, so her followers were instantly talking about it and sharing the news. When something is caught on video and the person is well-known, it just feels more personal, like it could be someone you know.
I’ve seen a lot of posts calling out the authorities for not protecting young women, especially in Jalisco, so it kind of sparked a whole debate about violence and the government not doing enough. People start trending these cases to make noise, hoping things will change. I’m honestly still shocked every time I see news like that go viral, but I get why people feel the need to speak out. Stay safe, for real.
