Honestly, I think the whole dstv decoder price drop is kinda wild. It went from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000 in just a day! From what I've seen, loads of people stopped renewing their subscriptions over the last couple years, especially with prices going higher three times in just two years. I remember my uncle saying he couldn't even justify paying that much just to watch football and a few movies every month.
So MultiChoice probably realized if they keep losing users, there won't be anyone left to pay full price anyway. They've lost like 1.4 million subscribers since 2023 – that's a ton! Plus, we all know money has been tight for most families lately, and spending on entertainment isn't a top priority when things are tough. The new price is their way of winning back customers and making sure new people can actually afford to start watching again.
I do wonder though, if everyone jumps in just for the lower price and then ditches again after the promo, will it actually save dstv? I guess we'll see, but it's bold and honestly, kinda fair for people who stuck around. It's pretty cool that they're actually listening for once!
