Honestly, I was surprised when I saw that President Tinubu finally gave a posthumous pardon to ken saro wiwa and the other Ogoni Nine. It's been almost 30 years since they were executed, so I totally get why people are asking why this happened now. I think the timing is all about politics and trying to fix Nigeria's reputation. Over the years, so many people (including me and my family) have talked about how unfair the trial was for ken saro wiwa. He was a straight-up environmental activist who stood up for his people, but the government basically made him a scapegoat to keep the oil companies happy back then.

Now, with a new government and all, Tinubu probably wants to show he cares about justice and human rights. Giving a pardon and a national honour is kinda his way of saying, "Hey, we know what happened was wrong, and we want to make things right." It also helps Nigeria look better to the rest of the world. In my opinion, it's super late, but at least they're finally admitting they messed up. It might help heal some old wounds, but it can’t undo what happened for sure.
