I've honestly wondered the same thing! Luka Modric is basically a Real Madrid legend. But from what I've read and watched, it’s not really about Modric being bad or anything. It’s kind of a club decision, since Madrid is starting this big midfield refresh with younger players like Bellingham and Tchouaméni. Even though Modric still seems super sharp and tons of fans (including me) would love one more season, the bosses at Madrid want to move forward with the next generation.
Modric himself has said he feels super proud of everything he’s won—six Champions Leagues, four LaLigas, and being the most decorated player in club history. He leaves because his contract isn’t being renewed, even though he apparently wanted to stay just a bit longer. It sucks for us who don’t want to see him go, but I kind of get that the club doesn’t want to be stuck in the past. Still, it’s emotional just thinking about Modric playing his last games in Madrid. I’ll seriously miss seeing him boss it in midfield.
