Honestly, it feels like the NERC downgrade is just another temporary fix. I mean, I get why they did it – they want tariffs to match actual electricity service, and that's fair. But I’ve seen these kinds of announcements over and over, and they rarely change the big picture. The power situation in Nigeria is still pretty chaotic. Like, everyone in my neighborhood either has two generators or spends a fortune on fuel, even though we’re supposed to be in a good “band.”
Some people think the downgrade will make the electricity companies try harder to deliver stable power so they can charge more, but I doubt it. Unless they fix stuff like old equipment and fuel shortages, nothing’s really going to change. But, at least it holds someone accountable and stops people from being overcharged – that's a small win. I guess the real fix would be investing in better power infrastructure, not just moving people between bands on paper. If this stops at just changing labels and bills, I don't think anyone will notice much difference in their daily life.
