Honestly, I’ve always thought it’s weird how everyone assumes Australia is gonna steamroll South Africa every time they play, especially in cricket. From everything I’ve seen, those Australia vs South Africa games are anything but easy for either side. I remember staying up late to watch that semi-final in 1999—a match that tied and put everyone on the edge of their seats! Even in this latest ICC World Test Championship Final and all those T20 games, it's never just a walkover. Both teams have some star players—think of Cummins or Starc for Australia, and Markram or Rabada for South Africa.
I think some of the expectation comes from Australia’s general reputation as world champs, but if you actually watch the games, South Africa always shows a ton of fight. Yeah, Australia has won some big finals, but so many of those losses South Africa had were only by a little, or they went down swinging right till the last over. So I don’t buy into the "predictable" narrative—these teams have a proper rivalry and it’s usually anyone’s game until the last ball. If you actually watch the matches, you'll see how close it really is!
